A financing invitation beside your sales dashboard needs its own cash forecast. Before accepting it, identify the repayment source and the date on which collections could squeeze payroll, stock or tax. Keep the agreement beside that forecast.
Stripe's proposed Parafin acquisition makes the distribution question timely. It leaves today's operating test with the owner: does this particular obligation fit the business through a weaker week?
Keep the deal status outside the forecast
On September 30, 2026, Stripe announced an agreement to acquire Parafin. Both parties still describe closing as conditional and expected in coming months on pages checked October 6. Those announcements establish an agreed transaction; they do not confirm completion or a new offer for your account.
Parafin says existing offers, outstanding financing and repayment terms are unaffected by the announcement. Treat that as the company's statement, and check any account-specific notice against your signed agreement. Neither party's announcement establishes a cheaper price for your next advance.
Our interpretation is that closer payments and financing infrastructure could expand platform distribution. Put that possibility on a watchlist. Put only confirmed receipts, obligations and actual offer terms in the financing forecast.
Build one file for the financing decision
Name the expense first: a stock order, equipment purchase or gap before a customer pays. Record its amount and deadline. Then name the receipts expected to cover repayment, with dates and evidence. An unsigned sales prospect belongs in a separate scenario.
Save the offer screen, full agreement and disclosure version. Write down the platform displaying the invitation, the finance provider and the payment collector. Identify the contact responsible for an incorrect collection or a repayment question. An application button should not be the only route to the terms.
For existing finance, retain notices and payment records in the same file. Verify any change of payment destination through a channel you already trust. A new brand or ownership announcement alone cannot establish that a message containing bank details is authentic.
Translate the offer into cash movements
Consider an illustrative $10,000 advance with a $1,500 fixed charge. Total repayment is $11,500 before any other contractual charge. These are invented planning inputs, not a Stripe or Parafin quotation. Record usable cash separately if a fee would be deducted before funding.
The $1,500 is 15% of the hypothetical advance. That division does not produce an annual borrowing rate. Timing matters: paying the same charge over a shorter period can have a different annualized cost. Use the dated collections to compare offers consistently.
Request the collection formula. For a receipts-based arrangement, establish which receipts count, the percentage taken and any minimum or final-payment requirement. For fixed payments, obtain every amount and date. Ask how refunds and adjustments enter the calculation.
Record guarantees, security, default provisions, early settlement and any restriction on moving payment processing. Also confirm whether the agreement is a loan or another financing structure. Those are questions for the provider and documents; a product label cannot settle them.
Run a weaker week before accepting
Use a separate illustrative weekly forecast with no opening cash buffer. Suppose customer receipts are $12,000, committed operating payments are $10,500 and a hypothetical collection is 10% of receipts. The collection is $1,200, leaving $300 after those payments.
Now reduce receipts to $8,000 and operating payments to $7,500. The collection falls to $800, but the week ends $300 short. A smaller collection does not establish that the remaining cash covers obligations. This example assumes only the stated flows and no additional contractual minimum.
Use your own payroll, supplier and tax dates to test the same sequence. Separate customer receipts from owner transfers and borrowing. An opening buffer can cover a timing gap, but record its use and how it would be rebuilt. Do not count it twice across different commitments.
Set a stop condition before the application becomes urgent. For example, pause if the weaker week needs an unconfirmed customer payment, an unexplained collection formula or another advance to cover repayment. A missing document is a reason to request it, even when the dashboard suggests immediate availability.
Compare the same usable amount
Put actual alternatives beside the embedded offer: a bank facility, business card, supplier agreement or smaller purchase. Compare usable cash, total charges, collection dates, security and the weak-week result. Label an advertised alternative as unconfirmed until the firm has a written offer.
Consider whether the expense can wait or be split without financing. Ask whether a customer's payment schedule or a supplier's documented terms could reduce the funding gap. Include any effect on delivery and trading relationships. A smaller commitment can be the defensible outcome.
Our guide to financing uneven income provides another way to compare payment structures. Apply the terms available to your business rather than importing another firm's eligibility or repayment pattern.
Keep the decision with the owner
For a software platform, the same review becomes a customer-journey test. Check where the provider identity, complete cost and support route appear. Give the owner space to save terms and run a forecast before acceptance. Convenient placement is a distribution feature, not evidence of suitability.
This edition contains no affiliate links or verified Credit Over Debt financing partnership. Editorial inclusion does not depend on a referral payment. A company's distribution ambitions do not establish a commercial opportunity available to us.
Finish the file with the reconciled forecast, actual terms and unanswered questions. Decide whether to proceed, request clarification, reduce the amount or wait. If the weaker week still needs money that is not confirmed, keep that gap visible and pause acceptance.
