How we report and calculate.

Readers should be able to tell what is sourced, what is arithmetic, what is judgment, and what remains unknown.

Source hierarchy

For legal requirements and consumer rights, we prefer current statutes, regulations, official interpretations, and regulator guidance. For account-specific terms, the reader’s dated agreement or notice is the controlling source to inspect.

Secondary sources may add context but do not replace the primary source when one is available. Publication pages list the sources used and the date they were last checked.

Claims and scope

We distinguish general education from account-specific advice. We avoid universal claims where creditor policy, bureau timing, scoring models, state law, or product terms can vary.

We do not promise approval, a score change, deletion, settlement, or a legal outcome.

Calculations

Manual widget results are deterministic calculations based on values the reader enters. The methodology version is included with the tool output. Results are estimates unless a page expressly identifies a reproduced disclosure calculation.

AI may never silently replace the arithmetic or invent a financial result. Any future document extraction must be opt-in and require the reader to verify the extracted fields.

Reviews

Each article shows its publication and review date. Material legal or regulatory claims are rechecked against the cited source before a review date is advanced. A changed date must represent an actual review, not a cosmetic refresh.

Corrections

Confirmed material errors are corrected promptly and recorded on the public corrections page. Small typographic fixes that do not change meaning may be made without a ledger entry.
